Taipei Food Pics

Here’s a bunch of random food pics since I came back to Taiwan:

Awesome Thai food in Ningxia market:

Scallion pancakes (these things are delicious) from a Jingmei market stall with amusing random graphics:

Rechao (熱炒) are casual Taiwanese dining joints where you meet friends and order sharing plates of fried & grilled food (usually mostly Taiwanese & Cantonese) to eat while drinking tall bottles of Taiwan Beer. Never anything fancy, but it’s good times and pretty much the default social activity when not sure what to do (a bit like going to the pub in England or the izakaya in Japan):

While in Taiwan, something you should probably always buy whenever you see it is hujiaobing (胡椒餅), black pepper buns. The most famous stall is in Raohe market, this pic is of one opposite Ningxia market:

I was cycling to Dadaocheng pier (a great riverside spot for beers & snacks) and happened to see the hujiaobing stall, and like I said when you see it you should eat it. I didn’t get a great picture of the bun (washed down with craft beer), but it was delicious:

These are deep fried century eggs in Wulai:

I’m not a huge fan of these oyster noodles to be honest, but they’re popular:

I know this looks mediocre, but they’re open until 5am and it’s great drunk food – sesame noodles with eggs and miso soup:

Here’s one I didn’t try (spotted in Shilin market):
